

The ASEAN Seminar & Workshop
on Antimicrobial Stewardship was held on the 30th – 31st October 2019 at The Vertical Connection Conference and Event Centre in Bangsar South City, Kuala Lumpur.
The event, held for the first time in the region and officiated by Datuk Dr. Hj Rohaizat bin Hj. Yon, Deputy-Director General (Medical) of the MOH, brought together 400 policy makers and health- care professionals from the MOH, public and private human health and animal sectors as well as delegates from ASEAN member countries who collaborated within the approach of “One Health” framework.
Among some of the prominent speakers who shared and exchanged their expertise and knowledge with the participants through panel discussions and workshops during the two-day seminar included physicians and AMR Coordinators from as far as the United Kingdom, Singapore, Thailand and the Philippines.
In his welcome address, YBhg. Datuk Dr. Christopher Lee (pic), Deputy Director-General (Research & Technical Support) of the MOH said, “We are witnessing increasing commitment from ASEAN countries to join the global fight against antimicrobial resistance. Malaysia is taking the challenge seriously as seen in the recent launch of the national plan by the MOH. Dr. Christopher Lee went on to thank the organiser and co-organisers, including the British High Commission Kuala Lumpur and other supporting partners and vendors who have contributed towards the successful implementation of the event.
